S-au format in 1979 in Londra (Est End). Primul disc a fost E.P.-ul "Flares and Slippers"
lansat la Small Wonder Records. Formatia initiala avea urmatorii membri: Jeff "Stinky" Turner (vocal), Mick Geggus (chitara),
Vince Riordan (bass), Andy Scott (tobe). Datorita succesului inregistrat au obtinut un contract cu EMI Records. Primul single
lansat la EMI, "I'm Not A Fool" a fost lansat in decembrie 1979 si a ajuns pe locul 65 in topul national. Al doilea single
lansat la doar doua luni diferenta, "Bad man" a ajuns de asemnea in topuri in februarie 1980. Cu "The Greatest cockney Rip
Off" au ajuns in Top 30 UK pe locul 21 si a ramas in topuri 7 saptamani. Urmatorul single "I'm Forever Blowing Bubbles" a
ajuns pe locul 35. Uimitor este faptul ca formatia a mai avut inca doua aparitii in top cu "We Can Do Anything" (iulie, locul
65) si "We Are The Firm" (octombrie, locul 54). Primele doua albume ale formatiei au fost "Greatest hits Volume 1" si "Greatest
hits Volume 2" si au facut din Cockney cea mai ascultata trupa de catre skinheads si punkeri de pe tot cuprinsul Europei.
In acest timp sa facut si o schimbare in formatie, tobarul Nigel Woolf la inlocuit pe Andy Scott. Un anumit cantec de pe cel
de-al doilea album, intitulat "Oi!Oi!Oi!", a facut ca sa para o noua forma de street punk, numita "Oi Music". In scurt timp
scena punk sa umplut de o gramada de trupe ce imitau pe Cockeney si noul stil de Oi. Cel de-al treilea album "greatest Hits
Vol 3 - Live and Loud" a fost inregistrat live in studio cu public, de asemea tot atunci noul tobar a fost Keith "Sticks"
Warrington. Cel de-al patrulea album, "The Power and the Glory"a fost cu influente mai mult de rock decat de street punk iar
in urmatoarele a fost abandonat de tot vechiul stil de Oi, Cockney devnind o formatie der rock in toata regula, atat ca stil
cat si ca vestimentatie sau atitudine. De curand formatia sa reunit dupa o pauza de cativa ani, motivul a fost (dupa cum puteti
citit in unul din interviurile de pe site-ul nostru) banii, asta spune totul despre noi Cockney.
